HWB US SEED GRANTS

Herbalists Without Borders is pleased to offer donations of seeds to HWB Member Coordinators who lead HWB Chapters/Clinics/Projects.

These US seed grants are designed to enhance the nutritional, social, economic, or environmental health of communities. Priority is given to projects that will benefit underrepresented groups, serve marginalized folks and get food and herbs to those who need them, seed saving projects that share back to HWB International, or that benefits communities of our Members with projects such as Community Gardens, Youth or Elder Gardens, Growing Food & Herbs for the Local Food Pantry, Educational Gardens, Growing Herbs for Free Clinics & Community Outreach, and serving underserved communities via education, outreach, and events.

Seed Grants are only for HWB Coordinators leading HWB Chapters, Clinics, and Projects within the US at this time, to grow HWB Gardens that benefit local communities. Seed grant kits contain a variety of medicinal plants, flowers, vegetables, and greens based on our current seed donations, availability, and number of applicants. See the application form for more info.

Donated US seeds cannot be shipped Internationally, so we work with International Coordinators to create this model in their own nation wherever possible!

What are Seed Grant Kits?
Seeds are donated by open-pollinated, heirloom seed companies each year to HWB for our Seed Grant program. Most of those donated seeds are food (veg/fruit) and culinary herbs, with some overlap in medicinal herbs. Those seeds are shared in the full/large seed grants to get food growing where it is needed (many Chapters grow food for the food pantry, put bins of fresh produce out at free clinics or community events, or use the gardens to teach folks how to grow food and medicine!). We match the seed company zone and region to the Chapter we are sending them to. We also grow out seeds here at our International Headquarters of medicinals that we share into the pool so we have a wide variety of medicinal plant seeds to share. We also welcome Chapters/Clinics/Projects/Members that save and share seeds back each year so that we can create a regenerative continuously expanding system.

Who donated seeds for 2022?
Sow Right Seeds, Seed Savers Exchange, Southern Exposure, High Mowing Seeds, Territorial Seeds, & West Coast Seeds. We have also had 2 HWB Chapters share seeds back from their grants, an HWB School member has shared from their student gardens, and our HWB International garden at Lunar Hollow Farm has saved and shared seeds back.
