HWB Micro Grants are one-time small grants for HWB members and Chapters for short term community projects under the Herbalists Without Borders umbrella.
2019 Micro Grant Information
HWB is launching the 2019 Micro Grant Program for current HWB members and Chapters in good standing to help fund community service works and projects.
What are micro grants? Microgrants are smaller grants of $50-$250 USD to support current/active HWB Members, Chapters, and Projects that benefit a need in your community! HWB is a small, grassroots, all volunteer nonprofit, and so grant funds are limited and will be awarded to those projects that most closely align with HWB vision and values, have the greatest impact on a community, and leverage the visibility of Herbalists WIthout Borders.
HWB Micro Grants CAN be used for these types of projects:
Funding to help start a Free People's Clinic (renting space, printing, supplies, signage)
Renting a community garden plot for your Chapter to plant medicinal herbs to use for your local Chapter or HWB Int'l relief
Renting an HWB table at a local herb or holistic living fair, conference or festival to promote HWB Int'l and your local Chapter
Printing materials for a Chapter or Clinic event
Startup funds for planning your Chapter Trauma Training (rent space, pay for printing, reserve equipment, etc.)
Buying bioregional seeds for your Chapter or Clinic garden, to benefit a free clinic, HWB International, or specific marginalized community
Hosting a free/low cost/sliding scale herbal educational event to fill/address a specific need in your community
Provide scholarship funds for low income attendees for your Chapter Trauma Training or Educational event
Secure needed supplies for Free People's Clinics that you have been unable to get via donations
Gas expenses for travel to host Free Clinics that are in remote or rural areas, difficult to access/in need of aid
Projects where expense estimates seem realistic and thought out
Tools or equipment for free clinics or for use by your whole Chapter (garden tools, apothecary tools, etc.)
Grant reporting after the funds is mandatory - thank you!
HOW TO APPLY
Be a member in good standing, or a registered Chapter (Not a member, or need to Renew? Click here to Join)
Plan your mission statement, project outline, and goals before you visit the application form
Complete the application form online
Please be specific about your project, clinic, community work, expense estimates, and how funds will be used (vague overviews may disqualify your application)
WHAT TO INCLUDE
If you are applying on behalf of a Free Clinic, Co-op, or Chapter, please designate a maximum of 2 leaders/contacts to be the main organizers and accountable people on the project.
Include specific costs as much as you can. Be specific - how many, how much, why. The more specific you are, the more likely we are to grant your funds. They may be small micro grants, but HWB still needs fully disclosed funds use for annual reporting.
HWB reserves the right to award a smaller grant initially - and once a group/project has shown they will adhere to HWB guidelines and reporting, they may then qualify for larger microgrants ongoing and in the future.
HWB is a small nonprofit with a limited budget approved for microgrants. If there are many worthy applicants, we reserve the right to grant smaller amounts in order to approve more projects.
Grants will first be considered for projects/Chapters that have NOT received a previous microgrant from HWB. If after the first round of approvals there is funding remaining, we will consider applications that have had HWB microgrants in the past.
HWB will award microgrants as the budget allows. Microgrants will be approved or denied within 30-60 days. If denied due to lack of funding, that application will be kept on hold as HWB may have additional funding that will re-open the microgrants program in the future. You will be notified if the application is pending additional funds.
